PRE-SHOW Checklist
Review your show details
- Any Special Notes?
- Is the show paid in full?
- What is the rating? Is a clean set needed?
- Does the show require sound?
* You are preparing yourself with any details before you call the customer.
Confirm your materials
- Materials are assigned to the Captain.
- You can inquire on your materials to 774-245-0387.
- When are materials available?
- What are the hours of storage?
- Do you have the information to access storage?
- Create a show txt thread with all the Actors.
* In rare occasions, the captain can ask another Actor to pick up if unable to.

ASSIGNED IF AVAILABLE:
SOUND - Base System and Sound kits A/B
Pre-Show setup
- Assign tasks before the show. Team work!
- Sound System - Same person setup and brkdn.
- Table Materials - Put out Rules, Pens etc.
- Setup Binders and Costume Parts.
- Who runs sound during show? Usually non Hosts and Leads.
- When a body mover is used, who will assist?
- Pickup Binders, Pens, Table Materials
- Sound System - Same person setup and brkdn.
- Who's washing down table binders?
- Who's washing down table sheets?
- Who's handling money inspection-piles?
- Who's collecting name tags and costume parts?
- Who's doing a check-in on all materials?
- Who's spraying costume parts?
Transportation
- If a driver is listed, pick a meeting time and a place that might work for a commute.
* The commuting place is both the pickup and drop-off spot.
* Actors who rely on the train should confirm that the train is available to get home from the meeting space as well.
Client Call
[Call day before show]
Your team is in place, your materials are ready. It's now time to call the customer.
First call the customer - If they do not answer, immediately send a txt: [Having the txt connection can also make it easier to reach them in case of an emergency
Hi Customer: It's [Actor] from the Murder Mystery company. I just tried calling you to review your show details tomorrow. Please call me back.
Client Call Questions:
* Note: Have the AIT show open to review
- Is this the best number to reach you on show day?
- Confirm show THEME.
- What time are your guests arriving?
- We will be arriving [Actor Arrival time]
- Confirm VENUE and ADDRESS.
- Is there available parking? Where should we park?
- Where should we enter? Is there a ramp?
- What room are we in?
- If it's a restaurant - Can we use sound?
- Confirm the number of people attending.
Client Call Questions (cont.):
- Ask for a 6ft table in the room. If possible, near an outlet (if bringing sound). We use it for our show props and costumes, but also cleanup.
- Is there a green room or a place an Actor can change mid show?
- Is there food being served? What time? Get details on courses etc.
- FINALLY - Assure the customer that its going to be a great show and to reach out to you with any questions or concerns.
* Note: Actors should not be asking for food. If a customer asks us, then yes we can box it to go.
During the Performance
Arrival and Setup
- Actors should all meet outside. If weather prohibits waiting inside, try to avoid speaking with the client. Only the Show captain should make first contact.
- Setup comes first. Getting dressed comes second. It is important that our show is ready to go. If possible, partially dress before arriving.

Showtime!
- Greet your guests.
- Captain check-in with the customer mid show.
- Actors should protect an Actor when they die.
- Actor Suspects should be ready to pass out final sentencing.
- Perform the lead speech when pickup of final sentencing.

Lead Speech
Everyone does it a little differently, but I usually hand it to them as I'm taking their final sentencing sheet and say,
"Did you have fun tonight?" (They usually answer "yes.") "Well, since you had so much fun, you can feel free to leave your name and information here. We're the Murder Mystery Company, and we'd love to come murder for you! We have many different themes to choose from and can do a show like this for as few as 8 people or as many as 500. We even do shows for kids.
Cleanup and Final thoughts
- Work together as a team.
- If you're done with your task, help on something else.
- Captain - submit your show report asap. You'll remember broken / missing things.
- Captain - Send a txt to 774-245-0387 on show material return. If you have assigned the material return to someone else, please note it on the show report.
